Bowers School Garden

Welcome to our school garden. We have 14 plots, currently in need of help, a pond with goldfish, a greenhouse, and a pergola shading a seating/work area. Classrooms are welcome to visit the garden whenever they like. Students enjoy looking at the plants, counting the fish, searching for bugs, and digging in the dirt.

LG Garden Clean-Up Day - June 16, 2016

Volunteer Opportunities

We need volunteers to help maintain our school garden throughout the year. Here are some ways that you can help out:

Lunchtime Garden Club

We need 2 or more volunteers to run a lunchtime Garden Club for 3-5 graders. This can be 1 -2 days a week. You will supervise a group of students, weeding, watering, planting seeds, etc. Time is approximately 12:00 - 12:45 pm.

Lunchtime Compost Program

We need 1 or more volunteers to bring back our lunchtime compost program. You will train and supervise students to collect left over fruits and vegetables by the lunch tables, then walk them down to the garden and put the compost in a bin or pile. Time is approximately 12:15 - 1:00 pm every day.

General Maintenance

We need volunteers to help keep the garden planted, weeded, watered, etc. throughout the school year. Time can be whenever it works for you. We need help updating the sprinkler system and keeping the pond maintained. If that is your expertise, we'd love your help!

Free Compost Delivery

Anyone who lives in Sunnyvale or Mt. View can take advantage of free compost at the Sunnyvale Smart Station near Moffet Field. We can take advantage of this opportunity if we can coordinate finding a resident of these cities with somebody who has a truck and manpower to load the compost up and deliver it to the garden.

We are not running the Garden Penny Jug coin collection program at this time. But money is always appreciated. It takes money to keep the watering system up to date, maintain the pond, and buy supplies. If you like to write grants or have other ideas for fundraising, we'd love to hear from you!  If you would like to sponsor the purchase of a fruit tree, that would also be greatly appreciated.

If you have other ideas to help out the Bowers School Garden, we welcome them! Please contact the office or Mrs. Keith in Rm. 13!
